Cancer and Ketosis

So, today my father received a diagnosis of metastasis to his spine from his Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. While this isn’t the best of news, I still want to give his body a fighting chance at prolonging his life. I feel that one of the ways to do this is to cleanse his system and put his body into ketosis to help fight the cancer.

It will be important to provide his body with enough fat that it can then turn into fuel in the form of ketones. I may also look into a ketone supplement to help this process. With cancer, getting someone to eat can be a trying process. Supplements can be a game changer.

Vitamins

An often overlooked valuable tool in our daily healthcare are vitamins. In today’s world of Pharmaceuticals, synthetically produced drugs are prescribed in lieu of proper diet, exercise, and natural supplements. While I will definitely follow his doctor’s plan of care with chemo and radiation, I will also be supplementing his body with vitamins his body can use as a defense against the cancer and the treatment. It is important to learn what vitamins can do for the body, how much to take, and how often.

Fasting

Fasting, and intermittent fasting is a healthy way to get your body into Ketosis and maintain it in Ketosis, which hopefully will help fight the cancer. My experience with fasting is to start out small and work your way into longer periods. A good practice is to start with a six hour fast. Let your body become comfortable with that length of time without any solid intake and then grow it from there. An easy way to get a longer fast under your belt is to do it while you are sleeping. The longer you do the fast, and the more frequent, the easier it becomes. While there have been people that have done seven day fasts, my longest has been 72 hours.

Also, try to have consistent, timely meals. Keeping a schedule is important to your metabolic health. Eating late-night snacks is detrimental to maintaining ketosis and an all around bad idea. While it’s impossible to maintain an eating schedule 100 percent of the time, you should avoid eating meals right before you go to bed.

Progress

So with that, I will start this journey with my father and see what results we can get. I recommend anyone talk with their doctor about supplements, exercise, proper diet and other modes of maintaining proper health. I’m hopeful that I can give my father a more enjoyable life.

I am not a doctor or medical professional, nor am I giving medical advice. I am sharing what I plan on doing for my father and will provide results. Always contact your medical provider for any change in your healthcare plan.
