A Typical Day On A Keto Journey

A Three-Day Trip

A typical day for flight attendants is anything but normal. This career is ever changing and one day is so different than the others. Being a flight attendant is very challenging with the constant changes in air pressure, passengers (happy or angry), and weather with delays. Sometimes things go smoothly and you wont have any incidents on a trip and it goes according to plan. But, when the problems start escalating, it’s important to have a clear head, energy and the right frame-of-mind to handle any situation.

How Keto Helped Me

Before I started my ketogenic journey, in a typical day I was consuming carbs, fat, sugar and everything that would not only cause me to gain weight, but it would also cause me to be lethargic. I had to use sugar to boost my energy and keep me going. The damage this was doing to my body was immense. I was gaining pounds by the week and it was keeping me from being effective in my professional career where many people depended on me to help in an instant.

By starting my ketogenic journey, I gave my body the proper nutrition to use for fuel and also burn fat. In a short time I went from 267 pounds to 200 pounds, and I ate my way to that goal. My energy level increased higher than what I had in my 30s and 40s, my waist shrank, my appetite was satisfied and my immune system was boosted. I no longer was sluggish in my daily activities. Keto helped me obtain the level of awareness that I currently have to be able to give my body what it needs in nutrition and health.

Where My Journey Began

As you can see from the picture above, I had to do something. With the weight gain came a diagnosis of diabetes from my doctor. I had just experienced losing my mother to this dreadful disease and it was a wake-up call for me. My doctor informed me that if I could lose the weight, I could reverse my A1C number and bring it back down out of the diabetic level, https://www.diabetes.org/a1c. I was more than motivated.

It’s Working

Getting Smaller

I took to Keto with an eagerness and willingness to learn. I had guidance from my sister and her husband who had been doing Keto for about five years. At first I found it rather boring because I didn’t understand the variety of options available to make the same favorite foods I had always enjoyed, but now using healthy ingredients. I always say, “Keto isn’t about giving up the food you love, it’s about making the foods you love with healthier ingredients.” And just about every restaurant has something you can still enjoy and maintain ketosis.

When I would fly my trips at work I would now bring my own food with me. I still would eat out at a layover if I wanted to, but it would be Keto all the way. I learned that I didn’t have to succumb to carbs and sugar just because I traveled for my job. It wasn’t about grabbing whatever, wherever, and whenever I could.

Seeing Results

After Losing 50 pounds

As the results kept coming I was more and more motivated. I learned how to cook my own meals, meal-prep, and what snacks I could bring. I used www.youtube.com to educate myself. YouTube is a wonderful tool and the videos make it easy to learn for me. The menu with Keto is unending and filled with meals, deserts, side dishes and salads. There are Keto breakfast meal plans and lunch menu’s as well. The snacks are items I absolutely love like beef sticks, cheese cubes, pickles, olives, and nuts. There are a variety of snacks you can make as well. I dove in and never came up for air. I embraced this journey and now I’m where I not only wanted to be, but needed to be.

The Journey Continues

My Smaller Uniform

I can never imagine myself going back to my unhealthy ways, nor should I need to. My advice to anyone is to give yourself two weeks to adjust and let your body rid itself of the sugar and carbs it has stored. Your body will then be able to start burning through the fat and using it for energy, good energy. Nothing has to be given up on your palate of taste. Learning to use different ingredients is part of the fun. Get started today, and always check back here for further updates and other articles on my travels.
